When a Wisdom Tooth Needs to Come Out
Wisdom teeth are the last molars to appear, usually between the ages of 17 and 25. In many Jaipur patients there simply isn't enough space in the jaw, so the tooth erupts partially, sideways or stays trapped under the gum — a condition called impaction.

The Extraction Procedure, Step by Step
1. Assessment and X-ray
Dr. Suchita Vishnoi examines the tooth and takes a radiograph to see the root shape and how close the tooth sits to the nerve and sinus. This decides whether the case is a simple extraction or a surgical one.
2. Complete numbing
Local anaesthesia is placed and tested before anything begins. You stay awake and comfortable throughout; nervous patients are talked through each step.
3. Removal
A fully erupted tooth is loosened and lifted out in a few minutes. An impacted tooth is reached through a small gum flap and sectioned so it can be removed without stressing the surrounding bone.
4. Closure and aftercare
The socket is cleaned, sutures are placed where required, and you leave with written aftercare instructions plus medication. Most appointments finish within 30 to 45 minutes.
Recovery Timeline After Wisdom Tooth Removal
- Day 1: Bite on gauze, use cold compresses, eat soft cool food, no rinsing or straws.
- Day 2–3: Swelling peaks then eases; begin gentle warm salt-water rinses.
- Day 4–7: Chewing becomes comfortable; return to normal brushing around the site.
- Day 7–10: Sutures reviewed or removed and healing confirmed.
